Portraits of Chinese Authority (2012)

In December 2012 I flew to China for almost a month.
A month in a plane! Can you imagine?
As an exercise and born out of my awe for their many uniforms, I decided to take portraits of every figure of authority that I came across in Beijing, Huangshan, Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing.
These were taken with a cheap digital Canon and required lots of practice in how to correctly ask policemen for permission...in Chinese. At the end of the trip I found out I had spent the entire time saying: "Would you please take a picture with me?"
This finally solved the mystery of why sometimes when I asked these nice policemen for permission, they put their arm around my shoulders and looked around for someone else to take a picture :)
